A Mere Point!
One single point — that’s all it took to cost the Kabale University Nets basketball team the trophy. The dramatic finale unfolded on Friday, October 17, 2025, during a one-day tournament dubbed “Catch The Fire Kabale,” sponsored by Phaneroo Basketball and organized by Hearing Heart.
The games kicked off late in the afternoon with De Hackers facing the Nets in the opening match. The Nets cruised to a comfortable 25–14 victory. Next up, Thunders went head-to-head with Phaneroo Basketball. The Thunders opened the scoring with a three-pointer in what quickly became a highly physical contest. However, Phaneroo proved stronger, edging the Thunders 35–30 to book their spot in the final.
The championship clash pitted Phaneroo Basketball against the Kabale University Nets — and what a game it was! Phaneroo took an early lead and held on despite a spirited Nets comeback that saw them close a 13-point gap to just one point as the final buzzer sounded. In the end, Phaneroo triumphed 29–28.
Paul Mutebi and Captain Edgar Mwebaze led Phaneroo’s scoring with 12 and 9 points respectively, while the Nets were powered by Eric Musubira (13 points) and Joseph Muhanguzi (8 points).
One of the highlights of the game came when Captain Edgar sank a buzzer-beating three-pointer to close the first half — a moment that sent the crowd roaring and saw him share an electric chest bump with Paul.
After the final whistle, the players received medals and shirts, and MC of the day, Mugisha Emma, entertained the crowd with some vibrant Rukiga flow that had everyone cheering and laughing. The event concluded with a brief award ceremony and sharing of the Word, during which two souls were won to Christ. Hallelujah!
But the tournament was more than just fun and competition — it was an outreach to the Kabale basketball community ahead of the Catch The Fire Kabale Crusade. Catch The Fire is an annual outreach mission by Manifest Fellowship, the campus arm of Phaneroo Ministries International, leading revival across universities in Uganda and beyond. The crusade itself was held the following day, October 18, at Kabale Stadium, drawing thousands in attendance and hundreds who gave their lives to God.
